Drive Genius is a powerful tool to maintain and repair your Mac's hard drive.

Apple computers are known for their strength and reliability yet they aren't immune to disk errors or simply messy files and folders. Drive Genius was built specifically to help you clean up your drive and get your Mac working properly again.

Among the many tasks you'll be able to perform, Drive Genius allows you to partition, defragment, duplicate, or fix permissions. You can also perform a benchtest and surface scan and edit any information in your sector. If you want to erase sensitive information and make sure that it is gone for good, you can shred it, thanks to the DoD-compliant erase function.

The latest version has been significantly updated and features an all-new interface which makes it easy to work on different drives. Drive Genius also benefits from improved speed and performances.

The only real drawback to this solid drive maintenance application is its price. You'll probably think twice before dishing out a whopping $99 for Drive Genius, especially as the demo is very limited and won't let you fully test out every function before purchase.

Despite the price and limited demo, Drive Genius is an excellent solution with a wide array of tools to repair and maintain your drives.

Notes:

The current boot DVD will not boot into Leopard. Apple has not released this to developers yet (DDK), and therefore we cannot provide a bootable Leopard DVD. This affects anyone with a Macintosh released after June of 2007. As a workaround, you can load Drive Genius 2 onto a secondary bootable drive (with Leopard on it) and boot from it. As soon as Apple releases the DDK for a Leopard Boot Disc, we will release a new bootable DVD. Running Drive Genius 2 as an application on your newer Mac is not affected by this (this is only regarding the bootable DVD usage)
